The Valdichiana
The Valdichiana is an important valley for its Etruscan testimonies found in Cortona and Castiglion Fiorentino: Etruscan tombs and the Museum of the Etruscan Academy.
You can visit ancient medieval fortifications such as Lucignano, with its elliptical-shaped plant, Monte San Savino and the castle of Montecchio Vesponi. The Valdichiana is an artistically rich territory, from the Announcement of Beato Angelico and various works by Luca Signorelli in Cortona, to the works of the Della Robbia with their terracottes in the churches of Foiano della Chiana and the Tree of Life, also known as the Tree of Love, a splendid goldsmith masterpiece preserved at the Lucignano Museum.
The Valchiana is also synonymous with food and wine with the Sirah wine, olive oil and the famous Chianina steak.
